A boat trip to Samkar Lake means travelling at least 50 kilometers south through the Balu Chaung creek. Samkar Lake is a much smaller lake than Inle, and is completely filled with water-hyacinth plants.

Inle Lake has a quite large sister lake to the south - an artificial lake, connected through the Balu Chaung creek. This southern lake is popularly called "Samkar Lake", but the official name is MoeBye Lake (also spelled: Moe Bye Lake/Mobye reservoir. Samkar can spelled as Sangar, Samkar, Samka, and Sagar but the official name has always been Samka.

Inle Lake dates back to 1.5 million years ago, the MoeBye Lake however was created quite recently before 1970 with the help of the Japanse government - it was Japan’s first wartime reparations project. MoeBye lake is much larger than Inle Lake, it is estimated that 60 villages were completely flooded when the lake filled.

Mobye dam was built to store water to supply two hydroelectric power stations. The Lawpita power plant, just 40km south-east of the MoeBye lake dam was the first large-scale hydropower project in Burma.

After 3 hours of sitting and passing though village after village, bamboo forest, more villages, more forest and picturesque sceneries, arrive to Samka which is a peaceful and quiet little Pa O village with a few overgrown ruins pagodas.

Walk around the village and touch the local community - Pa O Tribe. Enjoy taking photo the ruin pagodas and continue to other side of the lake for lunch stop where you can see rice wine production factory” and test before your lunch.

After lunch break, start a short walk to Thar Khaung Pagoda passing through villages and monasteries.

After pagoda visit, drive back to Inle Lake.

Then, transfer back to your hotel.
